Type of treatment used is decided according to the severity of the infection and its location.
- Oral antibiotics include penicillin or other preparations containing antibiotics related to it such as doxycycline (beta lactams). People allergic to penicillin will receive a cephalosporin antibiotic erythromycin or vancomycin.

- Preparations containing mupirocin, are effective in the treatment of cellulite with perianal location (common in children).

- Intravenous antibiotic treatment include nafcillin, levofloxacin or cephalosporins.
